Momma Cat a.k.a. Cootie

Hey! Keep the noise down will ya!

Visitors to the Best Little Cat House in PA are usually greeted in the driveway by Momma Cat. Momma who is at least 11 years old belongs to a house down the hill although she spends every night and most of the day with her best friend Tiger in the bunny room. Lynn feeds her, looks after her, had her speyed all those years ago and gets her vaccinated every year. She is a much loved resident of the Cat House even though she 'belongs' to someone else. One afternoon recently Lynn and I were outside the Cat House discussing something or other when a cute little girl comes tripping down the driveway clutching a catalog in her hand. Lynn knew her as the little girl that lived down the lane (groan). She explained that she was selling items for a fundraising for her school. Lynn always eager to support a good cause invited her into the Bunny Room which was the nearest entrance to the Cat House. While Lynn was looking through the vastly over priced goods in the catalog (aren't they always?) and the little girl was looking at all the bunnies I remembered that I had shut Momma in the office because I was using power tools and I didn't want her in the way. I walked out of the office carrying Momma and popped her on the floor so she could get some food. The little girl exclaimed "COOTIE!". "That's our cat, we don't see her very much but she does come and visit us sometimes". Lynn gave a chuckle and asked the girl how old she was. 11 years old was the reply from the little girl which told Lynn that she had been Momma's surrogate owner for OVER 11 years. At this point I picked Momma up off the floor and waved a front paw at the little girl and said "Momma Cat meet your owner!". The whooshing noise as the irony of this comment went straight over little girls head was truly awesome! I honestly thought Lynn was going to loose it as she nearly snorted her diet coke out of her nose but she managed to hold it together until the nice little girl had gone. Somedays it's a laugh a minute at the Best Little Cat House in PA. If you should ever visit the Cat House please don't leave your vehicle unattended with a door open as you may discover a stowaway on the way home.
