A Place of Comfort, Dignity, and Peace
A Place of Comfort, Dignity, and Peace
Where Every Cat Is Loved
Until the Very End
The Best Little Cat House in PA is a volunteer-run, donation-funded hospice sanctuary providing comfort, dignity, and peace for cats with life-limiting illnesses.
Founded in 1980 by Lynn Stitt, we have been a place of refuge and compassion for cats for more than four decades, making us one of the nation’s longest-standing feline hospice organizations and a proud 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
A Safe Place to Rest, to Be Loved, and to Belong
Nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of Pennsylvania, just northeast of Harrisburg, The Best Little Cat House in PA exists for cats who have nowhere else to go.
Some are elderly.
Some are ill.
Some are simply out of time.
What they share is this: they deserve comfort, safety, and to be treated with tenderness for every day they have.
Hospice care here is not about giving up.
It’s about giving more — more comfort, more peace, more moments of joy.
At The Best Little Cat House in PA, hospice means living fully, even at the end of life.
Cage-Free Living
Cats move freely through warm, enriched spaces designed for comfort, choice, and calm.Comfort-Focused Care
We prioritize pain management, emotional well-being, and quality of life, always with dignity and respect.Specialized, Safe Spaces
Our sanctuary is thoughtfully divided into two separate, cage-free living areas to ensure every cat receives the safest and most appropriate care.
Hospice Care, the Way It Should Be
One side of the shelter is home to cats with life-limiting, contagious illnesses where they live freely in a dedicated, peaceful, cage-free environment designed specifically for their needs. The other side welcomes cats with life-limiting but noncontagious conditions who share equally peaceful, cage-free spaces focused on comfort, mobility, and quality of life.
About one-third of the cats in our care are feral. Like all of our residents, they meet the same hospice criteria and live on the side appropriate to their medical needs — contagious or noncontagious — while being respected for who they are.
This careful separation allows every cat to live safely, comfortably, and with dignity.
Powered by Compassion
Our sanctuary is run by devoted volunteers and sustained entirely through the generosity of donors who believe that every life matters.
These Are Not Their Last Days.
These Are Their Good Days.
A cat may stay with us for years, months, or only a short while.
What matters is not the length of time but the quality of it.
Here, days are filled with soft places to sleep, nourishing meals, gentle medical care, companionship, and the simple happiness of being safe and loved.
This is what hospice is meant to be.

Our Connection to PennyFix
We support PennyFix because several board members of The Best Little Cat House in PA helped to found the organization, and we believe in its mission.
PennyFix is working to make free spay and neuter accessible across the United States. And yes, it can be done. So far, more than 8,000 cats and dogs across the United States have been spayed or neutered paid in full by PennyFix.
